What should I expect at my first counselling appointment? If you have not been to a psychologist previously, then you may be wondering what happens in the first appointment. Your first session will involve some discussion surrounding your reasons for seeking therapy or issues you would like to address. I aim to provide an objective and warm environment where trust and connection between you and I can build; as it is a time when I am getting to know you. What is Brainspotting?Brainspotting is a non-talk therapeutic method that is used to access and process trauma and emotionally charged issues within the brain. In session, the client will identify and maintain an eye position while focusing on the somatic experience of the problem being addressed; which activates the body and brain to process, release and heal itself from the issue and/or trauma. Trauma can come from so many experiences and life events including: physical and/or emotional injury, chronic pain, physical illness, and environmental/natural disaster. Brainspotting can be useful as a complement to various body-based therapies including chiropractic, acupuncture, somatic therapies, and physical therapy which all help to improve one's own physical health. .
